To date 2019 has been a big year in hearing aids! The most exciting new features are rechargeable options and direct Bluetooth streaming. Let’s have a look at some examples that are now available:
Unitron Discover:
Unitron continues to excel in making fantastic products. With the Unitron Discover you get direct, stereo streaming from practically any smart phone for music, podcasts etc plus true handsfree for answering phone calls. You hear a ringing tone in you hearing aids, press the button on the aids to answer the call and you will hear the caller in both hearing aids. The caller will hear your voice picked up by one of the microphones on the hearing aids. To end the call, simply press the button on the hearing aid. There is also an app to make adjustments on the aids and also a streamer for the TV. Add the convenience of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and you have a complete package.
The engineers at Unitron have also improved performance in noisy situations, with increased ability to tell where sounds are coming from, and even better ability to pick out voices from the surrounding noise. In fact, researchers at the University of Florida found that, with the new Unitron hearing aids, you can hear like you did when you were 20!
Starkey Livio AI:
Starkey has continued with their Made For iPhone (MFI) hearing aid range that allow direct stereo streaming from any Apple device. Their app lets you control features such as noise reduction, and even create your own sound programs. In the range topping AI the hearing aid also has fall detection and fitness tracker. Yes, really! If you have a fall, the hearing aid (via your smart phone) will send a text message to up to three people to let them know you’re in trouble. It can even tell them where you are!
These hearing aids are also rechargeable, using the Lithium-ion system. The charging case comes with its own battery, easily giving you a weekend’s worth of charging without needing to be near a power source. Great if camping is your thing.
Other interesting products include Phonak’s Marvel range, which is very similar to Unitron’s Discover range, but with remote support, and Sivanto’s Styletto range, which are rechargeable and some have Bluetooth. The Styletto is a completely redesigned hearing aid for the fashion-conscious.
