Diagnostic Hearing Test – 0 year to 4 years old.
Inspection of ear canal and ear drum using a surgical microscope or hand help otoscopeTympanometry – a test of your middle ear function which helps us separate middle ear issues from sensorineural hearing lossOtoacoustic Emissions – This test takes a snapshot of the auditory system by measuring the firing of the outer hair cells of the cochlea. Present TEOAE’s are generally consistent with normal hearing or a very mild hearing loss which would still allow normal speech and language development. DPOAE’s allow mild hearing loss which would still allow normal speech and language development. DPOAE’s allow frequency specific information to be obtained but the test is longer to administer which is often not possible in this age group.Auditory Brain Stem Response – This test looks at the latency of set brain waves and uses normative data for threshold estimation. This test is utilised where OAE’s have failed and there is no middle ear
pathology. Additional Charges apply.

Hearing Aid Assessment & Fitting
At Affordable Hearing we fit most reputable brands of hearing aids at prices far below the hearing aid companies retail chains. A current hearing test (no older than 12 months) is required for us to recommend a hearing aid style as this is dependant on your needs and hearing loss. There is no charge for a hearing aid discussion. During this appointment you will be asked questions about your lifestyle
and what areas you would like to hear better in. Hearing aid styles and prices will be discussed.
Auditory Processing and Memory Testing
Auditory processing disorders may have many symptoms including, trouble reading and writing, an inability to hear or process sound in background noise, inattentiveness, general poor performance
concentrating, poor academic ability etc.The process includes a battery of tests tests examining memory and processing ability under different conditions. A detailed report is generated with recommended treatment options for the individual.
Ear Wax Removal
We are proud to be one of the first clinics in Brisbane utilising a surgical microscope for wax removal. This powerful device provides an excellent view of this ear canal and drum. Depending on the amount and type of wax it may be removed via a small suction machine or manually with a wax loop and forceps. Affordable hearing does not recommend irrigation (water) for wax removal. There is increased change of infection and damage to the ear drum with this method.
Tinnitus Testing and Treatment
If the tinnitus is in both ears and not particularly disturbing then testing procedure is exactly as per Diagnostic Hearing Test. If the tinnitus is disturbing – interfering with sleep, quality of life, emotional reaction then additional testing is required as per below.Inspection of ear canal and ear drum using a surgical microscope or hand help otoscopeTympanometry – a test of your middle ear function which helps us separate middle ear issues from sensorineural hearing lossAir Conduction – we record your responses to a listening task to get a graphical representation of your middle and inner ear systems

Bone Conduction – we record your responses to a listening task which bypasses the middle ear system

Speech Testing – tests the clarity of spoken words in quiet

Tinnitus Reaction Questionnaire and Tinnitus Case History – These tools allow us to examine how distressing the tinnitus is as well as look at triggers and treatment options.
